Happy Thanksgiving

I am so immensely happy with my life right now. Every now and then I stop and think about all the things that are finally going well for me. I can’t help but feel thankful for all the love and support I’ve received to help get me to this place. Especially on a day like today, it’s important for me to show my love, appreciation and gratitude towards all my friends and family. There were so many days last year when just getting out of bed was a struggle. Even after the overdose, although no attempts, I did have a few “bad thoughts.” More often than not did I think, “What is the purpose? What is the point to all of this, why does any of this matter?” Within looking for my answer, I think I discovered the secret; it’s simply to live your life. Find something your passionate about and follow it to the ends. The best part is, that means so many different things to so many different people. My passion is therapeutic recreation, autism, and children. My secret, my ‘purpose’ is to help those affected with autism. The way I’m going to do that is what I have to figure out. There is still so much to learn when it comes to autism. There is no cure, but there is also no known cause. Is this something that is preventable? Should research be focused on a cause and therefore cure, or a least known preventative measures. On the other hand, there are so many people out there that need our support right now. Does that mean research should be geared towards the existing population and how they can make a contribution to society? There is so much work to be done yet, and I can’t wait to do it.
